Many people dread the dentist. Sometimes because of an unpleasant visit long ago. Sometimes because of the sound of the drill, the needle, or lying with your mouth open. You are not the only one.
At DentalZuid you have nothing to prove. At the first appointment no treatment is needed. You come, you tell us what feels tense and you look around. That is all.
What we do for you
You tell us what you are dreading. We adapt the appointment to it. That takes extra time, and we plan that time in.
Hearing what happens, beforehand
We say what we are going to do before we do it. Would you like to see or hold the instrument first? That is fine. If one appointment is too much, we spread the treatment over several visits.
A stop signal that works
You agree beforehand how to make us stop, for example by raising your hand. The moment you do, we put everything down. Knowing you can stop is enough to calm many people.
How we build it up calmly
No two fears are the same. We start with what you need.
1
Getting acquainted
We start with a conversation, with no instruments in your mouth. You tell us what you dread and what went wrong before.
2
Agreeing
Together we choose a stop signal and decide how much to do per appointment. Do you want breaks? Then we plan them.
3
Starting gently
We begin with something small, such as looking or a short check-up. At every step we say what is coming.
4
Building trust
If it goes well, we take one step more. You and your practitioner set the pace together.

After years of putting it off, I dared to go again. They explained every step before they started, and I could always take a break.

For children too
Children can look around first and try the chair. We explain in short sentences what happens and let them touch things themselves. Parents stay with them. Read more about dental care for children.
Been away a long time? That is fine
Have you stayed away from the dentist for years because you dreaded it? There is no need to feel ashamed. We do not judge your teeth by when you last came.
Together we look at where things stand now and make a plan with small steps. Not everything has to happen at once. You choose what to do first.
